Green Island is a beautiful coral cay which enjoys world acclaim as a tropical paradise on Australia's Great Barrier Reef. The island is a protected Marine National Park, readily identified by its emerald rainforest surrounded by white sandy beaches and magnificent coral reefs. The marine life includes endless varieties of colorful fish, turtles, giant clams, shells, starfish, sea anemones and much more.
The MV 'Big Cat' is an air-conditioned, 30 meter catamaran which cruises daily to Green Island, located 15 nautical miles (27 kilometers) from Cairns. It features spacious and luxurious interior cabins as well as outside decks to enjoy the warm, tropical climate.
On boarding, passengers are offered tea and coffee and settle in for the leisurely journey to Green Island and their Great Barrier Reef experience. Snorkeling gear is given to those participating in this activity and en route to Green Island there is a snorkeling demonstration, as well as an informative presentation on how passengers can make the most of their day at Green Island. Passengers are also given times and details about meeting their various activities, such as glass-bottom boat tours, semi-submarine coral viewing tours, scuba diving and supervised snorkeling trips. The 'Big Cat' remains at the Green Island jetty for the five and a half hours that passengers spend on the island. A buffet lunch is served aboard 'Big Cat' for those who have chosen this option and a licensed bar offers refreshments throughout the day.
Passengers may visit Green Island Resort where you can browse through the shops and make use of the facilities including fresh water showers, change rooms and restrooms.
