| dishonest staff. lousy food. by tan |
| Recommend Dish(es): try leaving first. |
the staff were so rude. and very dishonest especially. my dad had a big break at his job and so we decided to go have something great to eat. having heard that the food at blue lobster was good, we decided to head down. there was 1 for 1 citibank offer but staff told other patrons that there was no such offer. they had to give it to us cos we brought the newspaper advert as proof. we wait almost an hour for a soup and no one apologised. only 5 tables occupied. 3 were complaining.
here's what happened in detail:
before we went, we decided to call. on the newspaper, home page 2, there was this citibank advertisement that said that there was a 1 for 1 offer that night. meaning that for everyone 1 main course you order, you get the other free. so we thought just as well since we were going there! however when we called up, the staff said that no such thing existed. puzzled, i informed her that it was on the newspaper. she suddenly went quiet (without even asking me to hold on) and i guessed she went to get her manager. her manager came on the line rudely telling me that such a deal did not exist and when i told him to refer to page 2 of home he nonchalantly exclaimed "well since its in the newspaper i cant stop you right". that was so rude and a sign of things to come - they didn't even know they were in the newspaper?!
well, when we reached the place at 8pm sharp, it was like quiet, really quiet. there were probably less that 5 tables eating in the restaurant, which is really odd given its a friday night! we didnt know why. when it came to ordering, all the staff couldn't explain the menu or any of its dishes correctly and we toook quite a while before someone actually approached us to order. when someone actually came, we ordered (took quite a while in part of her lack of knowledge of the menu and the communication breakdown - the waitress wasn't local) nothing against non-local staff, they usually are really friendly and really good at service. it was just the non-local staff (almost everyone in the shop) at this restaurant.
so we ordered a few soups, escargots, oysters. maincourse - two of their flagship dish blue lobsters (i was supposing it would be the best since their restaurant was called "BLUE LOBSTER"), fish and chips for the kid and steak. we waited after 15 mins, nothing came. worried that they forgot our soup, since soups are usually premade and scooping it out of a pot should be no mean feat, (my maid at home could do it in 1 min) we thought we should just give them a while more. we reached at 8pm sharp and at 8.50pm, thats a full 50 mins, the soup still had not come!
the soup still had not come? after 50 mins. we called the manager. nothing we ordered at come after 50 mins. not even the soup. this is outtathisworld! we called the manager here. he told us he was heating up the soup and that its coming soon. we asked him that this is appaling for a fine dining restaurant. its a full 50 mins. in jack place the steakhouse running at full capacity, even we normally would have been finished eating already, much less this fine dining place with less than 5 tables.
we have been waiting for 50 mins. no soup. then this customer who left with his date 3 mins ago, comes back into the restaurant. the manager went up to meet him and the customer told the manager that he was so dissapointed with the place, its so "lousy", and started saying how slow the service was. (i susspected he didnt want to complain in front of his date so he came back in alone). on his way out, some customers asked him what the problem was and he said "such bad service". a few customers shouted "you're right! really lousy".
after 55 mins of waiting for the soup, the manager came and rudely told us that there were no lobsters left.
"eh boss, sorry no more lobster left ah. today we very busy no more lobster. can faster order something else anot? how about this crabmeat pasta? nice lah you try. the soup you wait lah can, coming already ok. its like that one, today we very busy" ( i looked around , there was no one). my dad called the seafood pasta and a miso cod in place of the lobster.
NO LOBSTERS LEFT? but this is called blue lobster. he said that there were 2 lobsters left but he couldnt give it to us and told us to order something else. after almost an hour after ordering! we wanted to leave already but the manager said that we couldnt and that the food was coming already. so we waited and waited somemore. finally the soup appeared. after more than an hour. we were irritated.
we called the manager here again, he rudely told us that the other food was coming blah blah blah. and so finally the food came. but one dish was wrong. he gave us the crabmeat pasta when we asked for seafood pasta. anyhow we couldnt be bothered to deal with him anymore since it was already so late and we were real hungry.
we ate the food. not so great really. quite normal. definately not as good as jacks place. and not as expensive. quite disappointed. hoped the food would have been real good since it took so long.
we paid and left. paid only half of what we were supposed to because of the citibank 1 for 1 offer on the main course. however on our way out, we overheard another new customer what the discount was on the citibank card. the staff replied "15%". i walked up to that table after the waitress had left and explained to the customers that we just had a 50% offer on the citibank card. we showed them our bill and the newspaper cutting. i was appalled the staff lied. so dishonest. so just then the waitress came back and when the customers asked about the 50%, the waitress said to me
"why you tell them?". she asked. "why cannot? its in the newspaper what", i replied. "its only for you" she retorted. "its for everyone with a citibank card".
she told the new customers " ok ok i call my manager" she lied about the promotion. she called her manager out. this time he wore his name tag. his name was rudey. how apt i thought. and i left.
"maybe they used a slow cooker the make the soup"
