High life in Historic Kampong Glam by Robert Simon
Recommend Dish(es): Cheese souffle; seafood pasta; pork cheeks: apple crumble
Kampong Glam is such a beautiful area of Singapore - lots of shop houses and artisan goods but now I have another reason to visit - good food! I cam across Le Pont de Vie while ambling down Kandahar Street. The restaurant has a very attractive interior, mable black and cream floors, a huge 1920s style lustre and a cute bar. Le Pont de Vie offers fine Mediterranean cuisine at very reasonable prices. For starters try the cheese souffle or house cured smoked salmon accompnaied by the finest wines. The main courses are scrumptious with quite a reasonable choice with vegetarian option too. I went for the excellent seafood pasta served with lingustines, squid and fresh catch of the day - choose from a tomato, cream or chilli source. My date had the pork cheeks, a dish Le Pont de Vie is famous for. To wash this down they had an interesting selection of fine red wines (French, Australian and the surprisingly good Austrian ones from Carnuntum). Piudding was also delicious - I chose apple crumble and my date the molten chocolate cake. The food is beautifully presented and the staff are very helpful and friendly. We spent around 180 dollars for a three course meal for two with wines and I would say it was very good value. Will be returning in the near future.
