| Recommend Dish(es): Tahu Telur and BBQ fish |
Malay cuisine I would say is one the most complicated dishes to cook. With so many spices involved, the taste of certain meats would change drastically depending on the spice involved. That is also why I never in my wildest mind would be able to cook Malay dishes but I sure love to eat them!
One my favourite places to go to would be Hjh Maimunah Restaurant. They have 3 outlets- Jalan Pisang, Joo chiat and the newly opened Bencoolen. My favourite destination would be Joo Chiat as I I kind of like the hustle and bustle of the crowd there.
Their Joo Chiat branch was just renovated and the settings is pretty good. Everything seems to be well kept and the atmosphere is cool. I normally would order my favourite tahu telor and BBQ seabass when I'm there. There are a lot of other good stuff that they offer but with the large array of dishes that they have, its going to take some time for me to list them all. Its pretty much a family oriented place and it would be much more enjoyable to go there with family and friends. I think they are value for money, it may not be the cheapest place around nor is it expensive. The portioning that they serve as well as the quality justifies their price. I would say their service is not bad but I do not expect too much attention from them. The crowd and the long ques means most of the staff are focused on getting your food to your table. So if they don't respond to your chit chat, don't take it to heart. They are trying their best to serve you.
I would say overall dining at Hjh Maimunah Restaurant is a great experience and its food would be the drawing factor. Definitely the place to go to for Malay food. |
